Paratransit Service:
Paratransit service is an alternative mode of flexible passenger transportation
that does not follow fixed routes or schedules. Typically mini-buses are used
for paratransit service, however minivans, cars and shared taxis provide
services as well. Most paratransit vehicles are equipped with wheelchair
lifts or ramps.
Paratransit service often requires users to make advanced reservations, but
still offers a degree of personalization in scheduling. This service
offers a higher level of assistance by picking up passengers at the curb/door of
their homes and delivering them to their destinations. Depending on the
type of service available in your area, these destinations can range from doctor
visits to shopping excursions.
This specialized transportation is provided for older adults, low income
families and persons with disabilities. Government operated public
transit, aging organizations, and private agencies provide paratransit service.
It is usually funded by federal, State and local matches, while some providers
operate on a donation basis.
ParaPlan software computerizes the entire paratransit operation from reservation
intake to efficient schedule generation, providing detailed reports outlining
ridership, billing and trends. |
